Ronda Rousey Will ‘Be Back’ After Knockout Loss

In what reports are saying is one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, Ronda Rousey was stripped of her title after a knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 over the weekend. The match marked Rousey’s first defeat in her MMA career after taking several blows to the face, but it was the second round headkick that took the previously unbeaten Rousey down.

After the shocking fight, Rousey was immediately sent to the hospital for precautionary treatment and received stitches in her lip. On Sunday night, she broke her silence to post on Instagram, writing, “I just wanted to thank everyone for the love and support. I appreciate the concerns about my health, but I’m fine. As I had mentioned before, I’m going to take a little bit of time but I’ll be back.”

Watch on FN

Rousey had just come off an exciting win over Brazil’s Bethe Correia at UFC 190, when it took her just 34 seconds to knockout Correia and keep her Bantamweight championship title. With her rising popularity in the press and among fans, FN previously reported on how Reebok could capitalize on her buzz in and out of the ring.

Analysts were skeptical when talking to FN back in August on whether Rousey could help drive growth for Reebok. Now, after the devastating loss and her extended break from UFC, it’s safe to say this is still in question.

FN caught up with Rousey at a UFC press event in June, when she revealed that she trains mostly in the ZPump Fusion running sneaker from her sponsor, Reebok. You can see her in action in a recent ad from the brand. “I’ve had arthritis since I was 19 years old, so the only running I can do is uphill or on an elliptical,” Rousey told FN. “I just did some mountain training — ran up a mountain in them — and it was the first time in a long time that my knee didn’t swell up terribly afterward.”
