Sloane Stephens Reveals Love of Roland Garros & ‘Game of Thrones’

As a professional athlete jetting around the world, tennis ace Sloane Stephens can seamlessly shift from sneakers to a sleek Jimmy Choo without a hitch. On the court, she mostly wears Under Armour, which has been her main sponsor for six years.

“The SpeedForm Apollo is my ideal training shoe,” she told FN. The brand supplies all of her performance footwear, including a bespoke pair created specifically for the Roland Garros tournament in France this month. “We have several fittings a year [for tournaments], and everything is custom-made for me,” Stephens said.

“Every color, [from apparel to footwear], is determined by what court I’m playing on. [The designers] pick the best color for the courts.” Originally from California, the 22-year-old Stephens now calls Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home and trains there with her coach.

She revealed to FN that Korean barbecue is her guilty pleasure, that dodgeball is her second favorite sport to play and her favorite type of court to play on is clay. And as a rising player on the circuit — probably best known for beating No. 1 seed Serena Williams in 2013 — Stephens still manages to find time for herself. Here, the athlete shares a few of her picks.
