Men’s Trend: Laceless Dress Shoes

The latest men’s dress styles are fit for the slip-on-and-go gent. For fall ’15, designers swapped laces for a more casual, less stuffy take on the staple men’s dress shoe.

This laid-back aesthetic resulted in unusual footwear finishes, including elasticized straps or single buckles (a modern alternative to double monk straps). Classic brands Brunello Cucinelli gave its brogue an update with a kiltie panel and buckled strap taking the place of laces.

High-fashion brands like Givenchy and Alexander McQueen also went laceless this season. Givenchy’s strapped-in oxford is an unexpected-yet-practical approach to the casual look, while McQueen’s elastic side panels will keep the foot secure as well.

Quite a few brands also offered laceless boots, giving them a dressier spin in black suede and streamlined silhouettes. Both Mr. Hare and Berluti took on the essential Chelsea boot style, with Berluti’s take going the extra mile with broguing detail and burnished leather.
