Call it a coincidence?
Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri didn’t even get a chance to celebrate setting the team record for the longest field goal in playoff history before getting called in for a random drug test.
The 42-year-old broke his own 52-yard record wearing Under Armour‘s Hydrastrike Pro II cleats during Sunday’s AFC Wild Card win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Colts Punter Pat McAfee shared the news on Twitter yesterday: “When u’re closer to 60 than 20 & bang a 53 yarder ¾ of the way up the upright. This type of thing is expected.”
Just last week against the Tennessee Titans, Vinatieri ended his perfect season at 29-29 after missing a 46-yard field goal.
According to ESPN.com stats, Vinatieri has made three other over-50-yard kicks this season. Nicknamed “Iceman” for his composure under pressure, Vinatieri is known for two game-winning kicks in two of his four Superbowl wins.
