Nike To Release Series Of CR7 Ronaldo Cleats

Nike plans to write a new chapter for soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. The Beaverton, Ore.-based company, which has a long history with the Portuguese player, will debut a series of seven Mercurial Superfly CR7 cleats that chronicles Ronaldo’s storied career.

The cleats will be rolled out over the course of several seasons. The first pair, named Savage Beauty, hits stores later this week. The second installment will be revealed next year.

The Savage Beauty cleats feature lava-inspired prints, done in vibrant colors meant to symbolize Ronaldo’s on-field speed. Local artisans in Montebelluna, Italy, produced the footwear.

Other touches on the shoes — which were also inspired by the Portuguese island of Madeira, where Ronaldo was born — feature his CR7 logo.

“Madeira will always be close to my heart,” Ronaldo said in a statement. “I’m so happy to represent my island all over the world. It’s a fantastic feeling.”

The new line, meanwhile, adds fuel to Ronaldo’s deeper push into footwear. Earlier this month, the Real Madrid forward revealed his fall footwear, with Ronaldo himself appearing on the runway for the first time.

That footwear collection is made up of brogues, boots and casual shoes in leather and suede, selling for $125 to $215. His shoe line, which launched last year, is sold online and in stores in South Korea, Portugal and Iran, as well as in a shop-in-shop at Galeries Lafayette in Dubai.
