Cyndi Lauper to Create Shoe Line Benefitting LGBT Youth

Music icon Cyndi Lauper and shoe retailer Make a Difference Everyday (M4D3) have a new collaboration coming this summer. The socially conscious e-commerce business has teamed up with Lauper’s organization called the True Colors Fund, which aims to end homelessness for LGBT youth.

As a part of the collection, Lauper has designed a line of footwear for men, women and children that will be sold online through M4D3 and support the organization’s advocacy and public programs. Lauper founded True Colors in 2008 after learned that up to 40 percent of young people that are homeless, identify as a part of the LBGT community.

“When I learned from Cyndi that LGBT youth represent up to 40 percent of all homeless youth in North America—young people who have been pushed onto the streets, simply for being true to who they are on the inside—we wanted to get involved in the great work of True Colors,” said Steve Reynolds, founder, M4D3. “This shoe collection will not only benefit the True Colors Fund, but it will also allow advocates to visibly show their support and literally stand in what they stand for, which is equality for all.”

Since launching, M4D3  has teamed up with Mo’ne Davis on a collaboration benefitting young girls in poverty, as well as PETA and Frida Pinto on Nepal disaster relief.

“Everyone should feel be accepted and loved for who they are,” said Lauper. “Designing this collection in collaboration with M4D3 has given me an opportunity to support our work at the True Colors Fund through another one of my passions—shoes!”
