Kacey Musgraves Debuts Cowboy Boots With Lucchese

If there’s one thing country music star Kacey Musgraves may love as much as making music, it might be her cowboy boots. The singer, who made waves with her first album, “Same Trailer Different Park,” is trying her hand at a new project: designing a capsule of boots with Lucchese.

“You could say I’m a bit of a collector,” Musgraves told Footwear News. “When I’m on the road, I’m always in vintage stores and coming home with new things. Lucchese is a brand I’ve been aware of, especially growing up in Texas and being a boot wearer.”

The four boot styles hit stores and the Lucchese website on Sunday, Nov. 1. All have a whole lot of Musgraves influence, since she was very involved in the process, spending time in the Lucchese factory and coming up with design ideas.

The Golden Arrow boot was inspired by Musgraves’ favorite vintage pair from the 1950s that she wears on stage. (“I hate to say I have a favorite, but I might say this one is it,” she confessed.)

The boot gets its name from the singer’s hometown of Golden, Texas, and the arrow that has been the singer’s adopted symbol throughout her career. Musgraves said she also has big love for fringe, so it was incorporated into the white style.

It’s been a big year for Musgraves, whose sophomore album, “Pageant Material,” debuted to rave reviews in June.

She’s nominated for three of the top honors at the Country Music Awards later this month, including Female Country Vocalist of the Year. She’s also performing at the awards.

Musgraves was the first country music star to headline at New York’s historic Apollo Theatre in its 100-year history — and  she sold out the venue.

“The Apollo was great and had just a great vibe and crowd that was really diverse, which I loved. It was really a milestone — I was so proud to find out that I was the first country singer to ever headline there,” she said.

With all the music news and her crazy touring schedule, Musgraves said the Lucchese project was a nice change of pace and new way to stretch her creativity.

Musgraves is already talking like a veteran designer — with plenty of other ideas she wants to work on. “I wanted to have one pair that was inspired by the vintage ’40s and ’50s country western things, but I also wanted a more fashion-forward one, which is the equestrian style with the stacked heel that comes with the fringe,” she said. “I want to do men’s, too. We’re working on a light-up pair right now, which I’d love.”

While fans are excited about the collaboration, Musgraves said she knows she’s also got some big requests from friends and family — her mom has asked for a pair. “And my grandmother is getting a pair. She hasn’t ever had cowboy boots before!” she said.
