Brown Shoe, Diane von Furstenberg Team Up for Footwear Line

In another major move to build its designer portfolio, Brown Shoe Co. has inked a footwear licensing deal with Diane von Furstenberg.

The new partners will launch their first collection for resort ’16. DVF previously worked with Schwartz & Benjamin on its shoe line.

Von Furstenberg — who also serves as the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America — talked about her quest to grow her shoe business at Financo’s annual forum in January. “I’m all about the dress, so shoes are important for me,” she said.

“For more than four decades, Diane von Furstenberg has shared her sophisticated style with the world,” added Diane Sullivan, CEO, president and chairman of Brown Shoe, in a statement. “This is a great opportunity, for both companies, to continue to build on an already solid and successful global lifestyle brand. Diane is such an inspiration to everyone and we look forward to making amazing shoes together.”

Under Sullivan, Brown has focused on ramping up the fashion piece of its wholesale business by partnering with well-known designers and brands such as Vince.

Jay Schmidt, president of the contemporary division at Brown, will oversee the line. Distribution will be targeted to key wholesale partners domestically and internationally where ready-to-wear and accessories collections are sold.
