UFC’s Jon Jones Terminated by Reebok

With the Monday arrest of Jon Jones, Reebok has terminated its contract with the UFC star.

“In light of recent events, we have made the decision to terminate our contract with Jon Jones, effective immediately,” the company said in an email Wednesday.

According to multiple reports, Jones was arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Monday on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident. The driver of the other car, Vanessa Sonnenberg, a 25-year-old pregnant woman, was brought to a nearby hospital following the accident.

Multiple reports state that Jones exited a rented Buick SUV and left the scene on foot. Jones surrendered to police Monday and was later released from the Bernalillo County Metro Detention Center after posting $2,500 bond, according to the center’s website.

On Tuesday, UFC stripped Jones of the light heavyweight title and suspended him indefinitely.

“UFC feels strongly that its athletes must uphold certain standards both in and out of the Octagon. While there is disappointment in the recent charges, the organization remains supportive of Jones as he works through the legal process,” the company said in a statement.

Jones was one of the featured athletes in Reebok’s ZPump Fusion marketing campaign, appearing in commercials and public events prior to and after the release of the sneaker.
