The fight to end world hunger has a major champion behind it in Michael Kors, and the American designer’s efforts are being recognized today with a few pieces of major news.
The designer was named the United Nations World Food Programme Global Ambassador Against Hunger and announced several new projects for his Watch Hunger Stop initiative.
In his role as a global ambassador for the U.N. World Food Programme, Kors will not just be a high profile face to bring awareness, but will also participate in global events and philanthropic endeavors.
“It’s an honor to be named a Global Ambassador Against Hunger, and a further inspiration to me to continue the important work of ending world hunger hand in hand with WFP,” said Kors. “WFP has a global presence, with people on the ground in countries that are most affected by hunger and malnutrition, and they’re doing an amazing job helping families and communities build a better future for themselves.”
Kors’ philanthropy, Watch Hunger Stop, which debuted in 2013, provides meals for 100 kids in need for every Michael Kors 100 Series watch sold through the UN World Food Programme. In the past several years over 10 million meals have been provided through the project.

Longtime friend of Kors, Kate Hudson, is helping to bring awareness to the project as the new contributor and face of the initiative. Kors and Hudson will debut a limited edition Bradshaw watch in October in the designer’s stores and online. Sales of each watch will provide meals to 100 children. Shoppers will also be able to make additional donations on World Food Day on Oct. 16.
“As a mother, I can’t think of anything more important than raising a healthy and educated generation of children, and [World Food Programme’s] School Meals Program is committed to exactly that. This is a cause that I’m eager to be a part of because I believe we can all make a real and significant difference,” said Hudson.
