Weird, Wacky & Wonderful Street Style Shoes From Tokyo Fashion Week

Thank goodness for Tokyo. After fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris saw a slew of the same shoes on fashion types and lemmings alike, Japan’s style capital offered a decidedly different take for spring ’16.

Instead of a parade of Gucci loafers, Chanel slingbacks and Prada pumps, the It-shoe was eschewed as the fashion set took to the streets in extremely experimental, dramatically different footwear. While it might look crazy on the onset, the idea here was simple: no two pairs were alike.

Standouts (and there were many) included trompe l’oeil rollerskate boots, sequin flatforms, absurdly buckled sports sandals and unicorn heels, which all need to be seen to be believed.

Trends? What trends? An anything-goes freedom prevailed here, with rule book-stomping platform sneakers, mis-matched trainers (one black, one white, why not?) and an emphasis on all things madcap.

Looked at in closeup, many of the chosen shoes certainly question norms and ideals of good taste – which might very well be the point. But, when viewed as a total look, most have just the right amount of eccentricity, complementing equally expressionist outfits.
