Altuzarra Pre-Fall 2016 Women’s Shoe Collection

You won’t find any crazy feathered shoes in Joseph Altuzarra‘s pre-fall ’16 collection. The season saw the designer taking a more pared-down approach to his footwear offering, presenting stretch leather ankle booties and simple pointy pumps.

While the shoes were simple, the clothing was indeed meant to dazzle. Paillettes proved a major focus in the ready-to-wear: the shiny sequins were added to skirts, full dresses and the collars of coats.

Stretch ankle booties were done in simple black, brown and gray leathers. Pointy pumps had penny-loafer detailing on the vamp, in stiletto or kitten heel heights.

Considering Altuzarra is focusing on growing his accessories collection, a more experimental aesthetic would have been refreshing in the footwear here. In a market saturated with new women’s shoe brands, what will make the designer stand out?

It is worth nothing that his feathered shoes from resort never ended up being produced, so the designer still needs to strike a balance between creating standout and simple shoes. Surely, there’s a middle ground.

For now, he’s playing up the sophisticated side of his customer — catering to their feedback and needs was a major focus for the season, he said.
