Shoe Close-Up: Christian Dior’s Fall ’15 Fetish Boots

It was prime sexy time over at Christian Dior‘s fall ’15 runway show in Paris, but with a restrained elegance only the French luxury house could manage. Footwear designer Francesco Russo brought back the couture collection’s fetishistic latex boots, but one-upped them with abstract patchwork and colored lucite heels. The silhouettes, which were sent out in both thigh-high and ankle-boot form, could have easily read pornographic if not for Russo’s deft hand.

The kinky footwear was given a sophisticated twist with chiseled toes and proper leather choices, which read as latex but seemed to shine only in all the right places.

The ready-to-wear, designed by Raf Simons — straight-cut overcoats and knee-length skirts — also helped subvert the shady aspect of the shoes while allowing them to take the spotlight.

The continuation from the label’s couture show proved to be a thoughtful one, with just the right amount of re-working the details to feel fresh without going into dominatrix territory. (The couture show featured hallowed-out cage heels.)
