Tod’s Spring 2016 Shoe Highlights: Milan Fashion Week

Those weren’t your average Tod’s loafers coming down the runway this season. For the brand’s spring ’16 women’s show at Milan Fashion Week, Creative Director Alessandra Facchinetti presented whimsical updates on the label’s classic Italian loafer styles.

Perforated-leather driving mocs were given a touch of punk — well, as punk as Tod’s will go — via tiny silver studs, used mainly as piping. The style was finished with an oversized silver buckle. The same treatment appeared on slide sandals — a new, more casual style for Tod’s.

Other loafers mixed the studs with different patchwork leathers, which gave the shoes new life. With many customers heading to the brand solely for its classic offerings, it’s nice to see Tod’s adding some bolder detailing.

Monk strap-style loafers were done in metallic and black patent, a modern combination of two dressy staples.

As for the misses in the collection: Some of the shoes had a sort of childlike quality to them, including the silver-star and moon pins that were embellished onto penny loafers. Given these styles’ hefty price tags, it’s unclear if the combination of luxe and kiddiewear works.
