At Louis Vuitton, Nicholas Ghesquiere replaced last season’s tres Parisienne mid-heel pumps and logo booties with something an assortment of eclectic options that would be right at home pounding the pavement of London’s Shoreditch. After past collections toliled with more wearable, street-wise options for the classic house, today’s punky redeux was a sea change, shoes included.
The toughest of tropes were his new flatform lug sole sandal, complete with ankle wrapping and hardware chain. They would have not been out of place on an Alexander Wang runway and perhaps a bit too reminiscent to what he did for fall ’15.
But Ghesquiere quickly redeemed himself as one of fashion’s reliable innovators. Loafers came with chunky whipstiching in stark white. Python and matte patent booties came with a new partial toe capping treatment, done in a silver sheet metallic. That same shiny finish was also applied to snip toe western winklepickers, which seemed to be the type of shoe Insta-followers went most click-happy for, especially in gas-pool patents. Less eyecatching, but spiffy nonetheless were polished oxfords, a winning counterpart to the graffiti prints and moto jackets.
