Fendi Fall 2015 Couture Collection: Shoe Highlights

Karl Lagerfeld’s first couture collection for Fendi—dubbed fourrure, for its extensive work with furs—offered eye-catching shoes that mimicked the craftsmanship used within the ready-to-wear.

The fall ’15 presentation, shown during Paris Haute Couture week, focused in on a trompe l’oeil message. On first glance it appeared as though the models were sporting thigh-high boots, though on closer inspection, one could see that the ankle boots had been matched to the materials used in the skin-hugging leggings.

With the furs having utilized unusual techniques like slicing and scalloping, the same cutting techniques were also used in the shoes. Wavy metallic panels were meshed together with solid leather panels on some of the ankle styles, while other boots were done in solid metallics with angular laser-cutting.

To show an entire collection of furs in the days of ultra PETA sensitivity—Stella McCartney has indeed proven you can get the leather look without, well, leather—it took some unwavering confidence for Lagerfeld to further push Fendi’s affinity for fur. The shoes were equally as unapologetic here, but thoughtful when compared to the packaged collection as a whole. You wouldn’t see your grandma’s coats paired with these shoes.
