Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2016: New York Fashion Week

Rebecca Minkoff‘s inspiration for her spring ’16 show? You guessed it — a 60s mod ‘it’ girl.

The designer, who often cites bohemian style icons—she did Francoise Hardy for resort—was drawn to Marianne Faithfull’s youthful, rebellious style this season.

The footwear resulted in tall, gladiator-style pumps with lucite heels—shoes that were both decidedly retro, yet futuristic. Cutouts came in either diamond or circular shapes, with some shoes featuring striped panelling printed overtop. The same style was done in a shorter, ankle boot silhouettes, with all of the shoes varying from suede to patent leather finishes.

Minkoff also went simple this season, offering rounded flats with ankle straps in black leather.

The designer’s handbag collection has long been her forte, but the footwear collection this season was a tad underwhelming. Considering last season’s ultra-fringed boots, which were most definitely a statement, it would have been refreshing to take the footwear one step further, rather than step back.
