Karl Lagerfeld Sends Light Up Shoes Down Chanel Spring ’16 Runway

“Complimentary peanuts or Chanel bag?” For Karl Lagerfeld‘s spring ’16 Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week, he turned his usual Grand Palais location into a Chanel Airlines terminal. Models carted around luggage on their way to glamorous, imaginary destinations wearing comfy Teva-style sandals—but only these ones lit up.

Lagerfeld’s jet-set collection here was fitting given the French fashion house’s global takeover. Seoul, Tokyo, Dubai—Chanel has shown in all these cities, and have large customer bases in each. Therefore one could call the collection a sort of ode to its multicultural fanbase, which resulted in hyper-glam takes on classic travel wear.

Zeroing in on the shoes, the bulk of the collection featured open-toe PVC booties that had thick block heels, metallic accents and laces up the sides. The clear PVC shoe was also done in an oxford style. With the clear material putting everything on display, at least the TSA wouldn’t be suspicious of one hiding anything in their shoes.

Double-strap Velcro sandals, done in a dusted glitter material, had light-up flatform soles. Considering that traveling awakens the childlike curiosity in the best of us, the borrowing-from-the-kids mindset here wasn’t totally outlandish. Certain sandals were also paired with socks, because we’ve all been guilty of looking for comfort before fashion on a flight. Even the Chanel girl.
