Well this is certainly one way to ensure your shoes are seen, and avoid heeled models falling over. Rick Owens forwent the traditional models-walk-down-the-runway format for his spring ’16 show during Paris Fashion Week — instead, he enlisted gymnasts and dancers, who were conjoined together and carried each other in various contorted poses.
Considering the designer’s usual knack for draping fabrics, the new technique of draping women with, well, other women, was indeed one he hadn’t explore before. The resulting affair, though a dash perverse, created a truly symbolic presentation—one where women supported one another, and quite literally so.
Looking past the theatricality of it all, one did get a clear eye-level look at the shoes. Most of the collection was made up of leather ankle gladiator sandals, fitted with thick rubber soles. Interesting enough, all of the models being carried mid-air were outfitted in heeled footwear (including below-the-knee leather boots, as well as strappy sandals with a curved wedge heel).

Was Owens making a bold statement in favor of flats? He may be on to something: at the end of a long fashion month, it’s likely that many glamorous editors will be wishing to be carried around in their heels as well.
The designer is always one for a bold presentation. Back in January, his men’s collection featured various flashes of full-frontal nudity via strategically-placed clothing cut outs.
