Continuing the strappy look from Valentino‘s fall ’15 couture show, the Italian label’s spring ’16 show during Paris Fashion Week offered a lineup of lace-up sandals.
Designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli designed around both flat and heeled sandals, which had thin leather straps wrapped around the foot and tied at the ankle. The look was less of a commitment than its couture gladiator sandals, which require an extra minute or two of lacing just below the knee.
The label also presented tri-stap flat sandals printed with various painted geometric shapes, from triangles to diamonds—a style inspired by the traditional wear of African tribes, but not blatantly so. Simpler styles in the collection also included black thong-style sandals, which continues to be a rising trend.
While the style must be a top performer for Valentino—they’ve done lace-up sandals for the past few seasons now—it would have been exciting to see a switch-up in the collection. Considering their rainbow boots were a big street style hit this season, what will the street styles wear now?
