Dave Dombrow Leaves Under Armour For Nike

Dave Dombrow, the mastermind behind some of Under Armour‘s hottest-selling shoes, is leaving the brand for Nike.

The design force has been with Under Armour for the past five years, recently as SVP of design. During his tenure, he worked on every major footwear project for the brand, which has been aggressively growing its footwear business.

Nice Kicks first reported the news of the move today.

Dombrow is largely credited with creating Under Armour’s highly popular line of basketball sneakers for Stephen Curry, as well as getting the company on track in the running category with launches like the Charge RC, Speedform Apollo and Gemini.

In 2014, Dombrow was promoted to VP and creative director of footwear from the position of senior creative director of footwear.

Before joining the Baltimore-based company in 2010, Dombrow worked as a designer at Puma and the now-defunct GBMI.

While Nike’s hire of Dombrow will likely be viewed as a major coup for the athletic giant, it is a homecoming of sorts. Dombrow served as a designer at the Beaverton, Ore.-based company from 2000 to 2003.
