Industry Moves: January 2016

January 27, 2016: After nine years with the fashion house, Maureen Chiquet, global CEO of Chanel, is leaving the company at the end of January, WWD reports. Chanel chairman Alain Wertheimer will take over the operational management of the company.

January 25, 2016: Montreal-based Aldo Group has hired Daianara Grullon Amalfitano for the new position of VP of global footwear. A 20-year industry veteran, Amalfitano was previously president of specialty brands and international brand manager at Long Island City, N.Y.-based Steven Madden Ltd..

January 21, 2016: Michael Bennett, global director of Puma‘s Hong Kong-based International Trading Services Ltd. (PITS), is now responsible for the brand’s sustainability unit, Puma Safe, effective ­­January 2016. Bennett joined Puma in January 2015 to lead PITS. Dr. Reiner Hengstmann, Puma’s global director of sustainability and compliance since 1999, has left the company to pursue other opportunities.

January 15, 2016: Adidas has named Kasper Rorsted CEO following a meeting of its supervisory board in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Denmark-born Rorsted will join the company in August and will succeed Herbert Hainer on Oct. 1, after a two-month transition period. Hainer is stepping down sooner than had been expected. Adidas had previously extended his contract to March 2017.

January 15, 2016: Chinese Laundry has hired Tom Gibb as president of international sales. Gibb, whose experience includes roles at Nina Footwear, U.S. Shoe, Brown Shoe Co. (now Caleres Inc.) and Marc Fisher Footwear, will report directly to founder and CEO Bob Goldman. Gibb will lead and develop Chinese Laundry’s growth in emerging markets, the company said.

January 15, 2016: Fila North America has promoted Jennifer Estabrook to the newly created role of COO. Estabrook previously served as EVP of business operations and headed up Fila’s global licensing business. Her new role will include integrating North American operations, marketing and sourcing efficiencies and driving initiatives to strengthen the company’s global supply chain and U.S. fulfillment operations, the company said.

January 12, 2016: Justin O’Shea, global buying director at Mytheresa.com, has been promoted to the new role of global fashion director for the e-tailer. Heidi Hoelzer will take over as global buying director for the Mytheresa.com site and the flagship store, Theresa, in Munich, Germany.  O’Shea and Hoelzer will report directly to Mytheresa.com President Michael Kliger, with the changes effective on Jan. 18, 2016.

January 12, 2016: Leslie Lane, CEO of sports-lifestyle brand Dakine Inc., will take the reins as president of Dr. Martens U.S. and Americas, responsible for managing Dr. Martens business in the region, effective Jan. 28, 2016. The position was previously held by Bob Bradford.

January 11, 2016: Walt Disney Co. has elected Nike Inc. President and CEO Mark Parker to its board of directors, effective immediately. Parker will stand for election along with the company’s other directors at Disney’s annual meeting on March 3 in Chicago. Parker’s appointment brings total membership on the Disney Board to 12.

January 11, 2016: Wolverine World Wide Inc. announced that Pat O’Malley, who most recently served as the brand’s SVP for global product, is now president of the Saucony brand. O’Malley took over for Richie Woodworth, who was recently named president of the Wolverine Lifestyle Group.

January 11, 2016: Comfort footwear maker OOFOS LLC, appointed T-Mobile USA President and CEO John Legere and former Timberland senior executive Mike Harrison to its board of directors.

January 11, 2016: The American Apparel & Footwear Association has tapped Rick Helfenbein, president of U.S. operations for Hong Kong-based apparel and footwear giant Luen Thai, as its president and CEO, effective Feb. 15. Helfenbein will replace current AAFA President and CEO Juanita Duggan, who announced her resignation in November. Duggan will officially step down on Feb. 8.

January 11, 2016: Veronique Gabai-Pinsky, former global brand president of Estée Lauder Co.’s Aramis and Designer Fragrances, has been named president of Vera Wang Group, WWD reports. The position had been vacant since Mario Grauso exited in 2013.

January 8, 2016: Clarks has appointed Walker Boyd and Lucien Alziari as independent non-executive directors of the company’s board, effective immediately. Walker is a chartered accountant who has served as chairman at Spirit Pub Company plc and WH Smith plc. Lucien is chief human resources officer at the Maersk Group, a trade, shipping and energy conglomerate.

January 8, 2016: European investment house Investindustrial, which in December acquired Sergio Rossi from Kering, has named fashion executive Andrea Morante president of the firm.

January 7, 2016: Finish Line Inc. Chairman and CEO Glenn Lyon will retire on Feb. 28, 2016. Sam Sato, the company’s president and director, will become the new CEO. Lyon will serve as executive chairman of the company’s board through the end of calendar year 2016. At the beginning of 2017, Lyon will transition to the role of non-executive chairman of the board.

January 6, 2016: Larry Remington, president and CEO of K-Swiss Global Brands, has retired from his roles at the company, effective immediately. K-Swiss said it will engage in a corporate restructuring that results in a brand president for each of the six labels under the K-Swiss Global Brands umbrella. Barney Waters will transition from his role as the chief marketing officer for K-Swiss Global Brands to president of the K-Swiss brand.

January 4, 2016: New York-based design house Coach Inc. has appointed Annabelle Yu Long, chief executive at Bertelsmann China Corporate Center and managing partner of Bertelsmann Asia Investment, to its board of directors. The appointment of Long to the board brings its membership to nine.
