Industry Moves: March 2016

March 30, 2016: Rack Room Shoes has promoted former women’s associate buyer Laryssa Grant to women’s buyer. In her new role, Grant will support the retailer in creating a product portfolio that “resonates with the style preferences of today’s modern mom – in comfort, dress and casual categories,” the company said. Simultaneously, former assistant athletic buyer Adam McDermott has moved into the role of senior project manager in Rack Room Shoes’ marketing department. McDermott will oversee the introduction and ongoing marketing strategy of The Athletic Shop, a shop-within-a-shop concept in both brick and mortar stores and e-commerce spaces.

March 28, 2016: Lorie Pointer, previously director of product for Deckers Brands-owned Teva, will be transitioning to the role of director of product for Koolaburra by Ugg. Deckers announced the acquisition of Koolaburra, a sheepskin and wool-based footwear brand, last May.

March 25, 2016: Sean O’Brien has been named global VP and GM of global retail at Honeywell, where he will be responsible for developing and executing growth plans for The Original Muck Boot Company, XTRATUF Boots, Oliver Work Boots and Honeywell Safety Products. Prior to joining Honeywell as a retail marketing leader in 2011, O’Brien served as the senior director of product merchandising for Nike-owned Converse. He has also held senior footwear marketing roles with Wilson Sporting Goods and New Balance.

March 24, 2016:  Teva, owned by California-based Deckers Brandshas promoted Tres Riordan, previously specialty sales manager, to the director of U.S. sales for the brand.

March 24, 2016: Hy Rosario has joined Deckers Brands-owned Teva as the director of Teva product. Rosario most recently worked with another Deckers owned-brand, Ahnu, and has held senior product management roles at Merrell, Hi-Tec and Reebok.

March 24, 2016: Designer Massimiliano Giornetti is leaving Salvatore FerragamoThe group’s in-house team is expected to continue designing the brand. Giornetti joined the Florence, Italy-based firm in 2000 to head up the design and development of the brand’s menswear. He was promoted to overall creative director of the brand in 2011.

March 22, 2016: MyTheresa confirmed that fashion director Justin O’Shea will exit the company at the end of March. A replacement has not been confirmed.

March 22, 2016: VF Corp. has named Scott Baxter, previously VP and group president of jeanswear Americas, imagewear and South America, as group president of outdoor and action sports Americas, effective immediately. He will continue to hold the VP title. VF Corp. president and COO Steve Rendle had previously led the outdoor and action sports coalition. Kevin Bailey, president of VF action sports and Vans, will now have the added responsibility of overseeing VF activities in Central and South America, as well as the outdoor and action sports businesses in Canada and Mexico. Phil McAdams, who spent 38 years in VF’s jeanswear business, will succeed Baxter as president of the jeanswear Americas coalition. Tom Waldron, who spent more than two decades at the company, will succeed McAdams as president of the Wrangler brand. Waldron was previously VP and GM of mass brands, within the jeanswear coalition.

March 21, 2016: Dave Dombrow, Under Armour Inc.’s SVP of design, has left the company. Dombrow, who had prior stints at Nike Inc. and Puma, is expected to rejoin Nike’s design team in 2017.

March 18, 2016: Kering, which owns luxury brands Gucci, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent and others, has appointed Jean-Philippe Bailly as its COO, effective April 1. Bailly will be a member of the Kering’s executive committee and will report to Jean-François Palus, managing director of Kering. Bailly had been the director of supply chain and procurement at Richemont since 2004.

March 17, 2016: Outdoor e-tailer Backcountry.com has appointed Jonathan Nielsen as its new CEO. Nielsen has been serving as interim CEO since December, when Jill Layfield stepped down from the company’s top leadership position. Nielsen joined the Salt Lake City-based firm in 2010 to lead Backcountry’s corporate development and strategy teams.

March 16, 2016: The Finish Line Inc. has hired former Hudson’s Bay Co. executive AJ Sutera as EVP and chief information and technology officer. Sutera will oversee Finish Line’s information and technology functions and digital operations.

March 4, 2016: Hibbett Sports Inc. announced William (Bill) Quinn as the new VP of Digital Commerce. Quinn will lead Hibbett’s omni-channel initiatives and e-commerce. He will report to president and CEO Jeff Rosenthal.

March 1, 2016: Jimmy Choo has named Tanya Golesic president of the brand’s US subsidiary, J Choo USA, Inc. Golesic joins on April 11 and will be based in the company’s New York office, overseeing the U.S. and Canada operations.

March 1, 2016: Asics America Corp. has named Roeya Badri Vaughan its VP of marketing for its largest region, which encompasses the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil, effective Feb. 29. Vaughan, who most recently served as VP of Global Sun at Oakley, will report to Asics America Group CEO and President Gene McCarthy.

March 1, 2016: Canada-based footwear brand Native Shoes has appointed Michael Belgue as creative director and VP of marketing, effective immediately. Belgue will report to Native president Darren Hawrish and will work in the brand’s global headquarters in Vancouver.

March 1, 2016: Austin, Texas-based brand Helm Boots has hired Bradley Day, a former 15-year Adidas executive, as its VP of operations. Day will oversee day-to-day management of the company’s operations and leadership of all brand functions.
