The “Balmain Army” is inducting some seriously sexy new members, but they’re not exactly new on the scene. Veteran supermodels Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer star in Balmain’s spring ’16 ad campaign, shot by Steven Klein.
While Balmain Creative Director Olivier Rousteing cast today’s buzziest young models for his spring runway show in Paris (Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, etc.), he looked to these original 1990s supes for the season’s campaign. Rousteing’s strong-shouldered designs are reminiscent of the time when these women were fashion’s “it girls,” known on a first-name basis, and Jenner and Hadid are following close behind.
On his Instagram, Rousteing used the hashtags #DreamTeam and #UMadeMeLoveFashion when he introduced the campaign shots. The three models wear the strappy laceup sandals we saw on the runway and already on the red carpet.

Rousteing and Balmain certainly know how to get the world talking. For their fall ’15 campaign, it was all about sibling love. Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Erika and Joan Smalls, Armando and Fernando Cabral and Gigi and Bella Hadid were photographed together.
The “Balmain Army” has become increasingly visible of late. Ahead of the spring ’16 show at Paris Fashion Week, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid wore runway looks before they even hit the runway. And the after-party was the place to be: The models wore looks straight off the runway to dance the night away. The Balmain x H&M Collection caused mayhem in stores and sold out online in an hour.
With the fall ’16 fashion shows just weeks away, Rousteing is keeping us on our toes wondering what he has up his sleeve.
