Adidas To Add 120 New Jobs In Portland

Adidas seems to be keeping its promise to refocus on the U.S. market, and this time it is doing so with a major jobs announcement.

In a new video released today as a part of expansion efforts, Adidas said it is hiring to fill 120 new positions at its North American headquarters in Portland, Ore. The positions range from merchandising, design, operations and sales.

“There is a movement happening with Adidas. Our business is growing because we are challenging traditional models, experimenting with new ideas and moving with speed to lead change for the industry,” said Mark King, the president of Adidas Group North America.

The brand is also pursuing a different approach to hiring: King took to his own LinkedIn page to recruit new creative minds for the label.

After a decline in popularity and buzz stateside, Adidas has refocused a lot of energy on the U.S. market in the past several months, and it seems to be paying off.

Sales grew 12 percent in North America last quarter, and analysts lauded Adidas’ better designs for the U.S. consumer and range of product. A mix of buzzy collaborations (Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, to name a few) and product designed for the U.S. consumer rather than a spinoff of European versions has made a significant difference.

Last year, the company also committed to growing its physical presence here in the U.S. with a 25,000-square-foot expansion of its Portland headquarters.

“We want people who think differently, who want to break rules, who want to be disruptive, who want to find new ways to do things,” said King on his LinkedIn page. “All of the talent isn’t at the top of the organization. The talent is company-wide. If you want to work here, you have to have big dreams. You have to believe that you can change, not only the trajectory of a company, but the trajectory of an industry. We’re looking for people with passion and excitement who want to make a difference not only at the company, but in the world.”
