As our thoughts turn to all things festive (including Christmas stockings), Footwear News caught up with Brian Atwood for a debrief on his favorite stocking boots from the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. “I am obsessed with the black lace-up boot that Gigi [Hadid] and Alessandra [Ambrosio] wore in the Dark Angel section,” he said. “It’s such a sexy boot and such a strong statement.”
In the manner of those Balenciaga spring 2017 spandex tights/boot hybrids, the idea, he explained was “to almost create pants with these lace-up boots.” His favorite shoe didn’t come without its challenges though. The most difficult thing, he said, was “making sure that the lace up boots fit like a glove on the leg.”
“Since it’s all lacing, there wasn’t much of a boot there,” he continued, “but it turned out even better than we thought.”

While the laceup is undoubtedly the favorite, special mention goes to Josephine Skriver’s Swarovski crystal stocking boot. “There are over 10,000 crystals on that boot,” he revealed.
This is the second year in a row that the designer has created the footwear for the lingerie brand’s annual extravaganza. However, he wouldn’t dream of doling out any advice to the cast. He leaves that to the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio, Gigi Hadid, Candice Swanepoel and the rest of the VS Angels.
“Advice? They give the advice,” he laughed. “Those girls can walk in anything … It’s like their feet don’t even touch the runway. It’s a shoe designer’s dream.”
