Here at Footwear News, we see a lot of disappointing red carpet shoes. We get it: With so much pressure placed on the dress, our favorite starlets often have to pick a simple shoe to complement the outfit. But once — just once — we hope for a celebrity statement-shoe moment. Therefore, with the 2016 awards season quickly approaching, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to pick out out a few.
Opting for eye-catching footwear doesn’t have to mean sacrificing one’s dress. There are plenty of styles on the market that convey visual interest without falling flat. Take Tom Ford‘s wrap-tie sandal, for instance: Its pleated upper and golden nail detail on the heel make a statement, yet the all-black color makes it more of a complementary choice rather than a scene-stealer.

Of course, we do love a bold shoe, so Gucci‘s floral-print mule seems an obvious choice. We see it paired with solid black or pastel gowns. Christian Dior’s bubblegum pink pump would also look great with pastel colors (we predict pastel hues will be huge on the red carpet circuit this year).
While Casadei’s Blade heel is an often-chosen shoe for the carpet, we suggest celebs take it a step further by choosing it in a glitter finish. Tabitha Simmons’ ankle-strap sandal with glitter strap would be a subtler option if one is feeling glitzy.
