Slideshow: Hillary Clinton’s Shoe Style Through the Years

While Hillary Clinton’s influence on American politics has changed drastically over the years — first lady, senator, secretary of state — one thing has remained the same: her penchant for demure, comfort-focused shoe styles.

Tonight, the Democratic nominee faces off against Republican nominee Donald Trump in the second presidential debate (town hall format) at 9 p.m. ET on CNN, among other networks.

For the first presidential debate, Hillary opted for a stylish pair of Miu Miu kitten heels with bow detail. On the campaign trail, so far she has stepped out in Chloé nude leather Lauren flats and Ferragamo flats, among other styles.

During her husband Bill Clinton’s presidency from 1993 to 2001, Hillary once made a play for striking fabrication details with a patent leather pump for an interview on the campaign trail with Ted Koppel.

In her first term as first lady, for a weekend getaway to Hilton Head Island, S.C., she enjoyed a run on the beach wearing Reebok sneakers.

Still, much of her political career has been spent wearing versatile and basic silhouettes — a pragmatic choice for her many hours spent on her feet and traveling.

Heel lengths tend not to soar past 2 inches for Hillary, and on many occasions she has opted for flats. She has sported white, black and tan shoe colors coordinated with her outfits.
