Just ahead of tonight’s opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics, Katy Perry has released the music video for her single “Rise,” this year’s anthem for the Summer Games.
NBC, which is airing the Olympics, will be playing Perry’s song throughout its coverage. The song’s message is about rising above challenges, even when it seems you can’t go on. In the video, Perry wears a parachute and a jumpsuit as she battles the elements to fly again.
Her look, which stylist William Graper calls “soft armor for the corsetry militia,” was inspired by Helmut Lang’s minimalist aesthetic, particularly his fall ’03 aviation collection. Her corseted bodysuit was custom-made by Jim Tanner, and her custom parachute harness was made by Zana Bayne. As for her boots, Graper looked to Sorel‘s Major Carly style, customized to reflect some extra wear-and-tear. The boots retail for $160 on Sorel.com.
