When it comes to red carpet fashion, the Academy Awards are the grand finale. The stars, especially those nominated, bring their very best, knowing that their every move is being watched and recorded.
While often the floor-sweeping gowns and million dollars jewels get the starring treatment, it’s not unusual for a shoe to get a moment of its very own, whether it’s Angelina Jolie’s pair of Salvatore Ferragamo heels in 2012 (visible thanks to ‘that’ pose) or Jennifer Lawrence’s infamous trip up the stairs in Brian Atwood in 2013.

Looking back over the years, Oscars style has certainly hit its highs and lows, providing many memorable moments to reminisce.
Case in point, last year Emma Stone, who was on hand after being nominated for her supporting role in “Birdman,” wowed in head-to-toe pale green. Her Christian Louboutin heels were a memorable standout, matching the hue of her Elie Saab gown perfectly.

Anne Hathaway won for best supporting actress wearing Giuseppe Zanotti heels in 2013 for her role in “Les Miserables.” While not everyone loved her Prada gown, she definitely was one of best-dressed in the shoe department.

These days, the singer may be arguably one of the queens of the “sheer” dress trend, but back in 2005, Beyoncé hit the red carpet at the Oscars in one of the best looks of the night. The star wore a fitted black gown and accented it with a pair of simple platforms embellished with rhinestones along the outer sole. It was subtle and sophisticated.

Back in 2004, it was Charlize Theron in Gucci with kitten heeled sandals and Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera with sweet pumps that stole the red carpet.

Not every red carpet fashion risk pays off. Hilary Swank’s ballet inspired look, complete with Jimmy Choos, landed her on one of the worst dressed lists in 2003.
