Top Hollywood Stylists On Why Jimmy Choo Dominates The Red Carpet

Jimmy Choo was one of the first shoe brands to focus on the red carpet during its earliest years — and the brand continues to play a big role in Hollywood.

Here, top stylists talk about Jimmy Choo’s influence and their biggest red carpet moments with the brand.

Elizabeth Saltzman

On Jimmy Choo’s red-carpet dominance: “It started with the beginning of the brand when they came to L.A. and offered a service that didn’t exist before. They brought out styles that were white and custom-dyed them to whatever color you wanted them to be. That was smart, and [it] meant that they offered a service different from everyone else. They had an Oscar suite early on. They offered you, the stylist or celebrity, a luxury way of looking for your shoes. They got this right at the very beginning — that’s what roped us all in, and now they’ve kept it going by offering something for everyone: If you need a platform, they have it. If you need a special shoe that no one else will have, they have it. Without going overboard, they just offer enough.”

Standout Choo moment: “Uma Thurman at [this year’s] Met Ball. It’s a big night out, and you know that your person is being scrutinized. I decided to keep her elegant and beautiful. I was looking for a shoe that had a lower heel but wasn’t a flat — and that was timeless. I called up Jimmy Choo, and they sent me the Vivien ostrich feather bow-satin sandals. Trying to get something in a size 41, which is not a sample size, isn’t [always easy]. With Jimmy Choo, you can get that size, no problem. It’s nice to know that a brand you have been working with for 20 years is still there and focused.”

Cher Coulter

On Jimmy Choo’s red-carpet dominance: “I use them all of the time. I go more for evening than day, even though they do great boots and sandals. They’ve perfected classic shapes — the stiletto pump, round toe or pointed. They’re glamorous but comfortable and not slutty. They get enough of a trend without becoming a victim to it. So if crazy platforms are in fashion, they will acknowledge them and do them, but make them attractive.”

Standout Choo moment: “At the Elle Style Awards in London this year, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was in the Minny sandal. She’s worn it several times in various colors. That’s a very classic shape that they got right.”

On Jimmy Choo’s red-carpet dominance: “I’ve been doing red carpet for 20 years, and throughout my career, Jimmy Choo has been one of the main brands that has stayed at the fashion forefront in terms of collaborating with stylists. They truly understand what makes a women feel beautiful on their special night.”

Standout Choo moment: “It is difficult for me to pick just one. All of my clients, including Penelope Cruz, Anna Kendrick, Tina Fey and Priyanka Chopra, wear Jimmy Choo on the red carpet regularly, and when they do, they steal the spotlight.”
