After a 45 minute delay (due to Nicki Minaj’s late arrival and the seemingly insatiable flash frenzy for photos of fellow front rowers Kylie Jenner and Madonna) guests assumed the Alexander Wang experience had commenced. But no. Following a short video showing counterfeit goods arriving to a New York port, models stormed the runway in the designer’s clever answer to the buy now, wear now movement: a surprise collaboration with Adidas, dropping Sunday.

Immediately following the show, attendees were ushered to Wang’s usual rollicking after party on-site, only this one featured a complete Adidas activation for the launch, which is signified by the brand’s signature trefoil turned upside down. A plexiglass trailer put the spotlight on the shoes: suede and perforated flatforms and a late ’90s-style runner with built in knit sock details and boost soles.

Tomorrow will tell if Wang, who is never not in trainers himself, and the athletic brand’s partnership, is fruitful for both parties. But it certainly appears a glove fit.
