Alexandre Birman Fall 2016 Shoes At Paris Fashion Week

The Mood: The Ice Age

The Shoes: But first, those frozen blocks. Alexandre Birman is determined to be noticed, from the previous night’s buzzy soirée at an exclusive Parisian residence to filling Le Bristol with large ice pieces to display his latest collection of rabbit fur alpine boots, tubular strappy pumps, rich velvet sandals (his Clarita updates are the best in the biz) and impressive woven leather numbers. The whole thing called to mind the chilly mise en scene in “The Revenant” and its star’s greater message, which Birman echoed.

“I loved that film and also what Leonardo DiCaprio said in his speech about the global warming crisis and protecting our planet,” he said.

For his part, producing the collection (ditto his bigger Arezzo and Schutz brands) in his factories in Brazil as well as sourcing the majority of materials, furs and leathers from his homeland helps keep his own carbon footprint down. “It’s really important we continue to think and talk about these issues.”

The Verdict: As Birman’s collections continue to strengthen their point of view and presence, this one also took on seasonless shoes – that open weaving, those fur-trimmed sandals and boots – with increasingly desirable options to wear year-round, above or below the equator.
