You can always count on the Italians to add some zest to fashion month. The fall ’16 runways at Milan fashion week offered some truly wacky footwear, from ruffled boots to thigh-high buckled gladiators. While outlandish styles were seen in New York and London, Milan has been a surprising frontrunner in the kooky department.
Fendi created otherworldly thigh-high boots, done in colored leathers with textured knee patches and ruffled vamps.
Always one for an unusual shape, Marco de Vincenzo offered satin boots and sandals with a multi-layered ruffled treatment. The end result was like icing on a cake.

Dolce and Gabbana’s latest collection featured its signature whimsical heels. T-strap metallic pumps were adorned with various embellishments, like fur pom-poms or tiny multicolored flowers. Some heels had a fur trim — a mini mohawk for your feet!
Boots were taken to the extreme. Diesel Black Gold brought the lace-up combat boot to a below-the-knee silhouette. Extra tough indeed. Francesco Scognamiglio did a lace-up boot with ribbon lacing — a sort of Victorian silhouette, though very much on-trend with a clear PVC upper.
