“I love the idea of it being classic, real ’70s shapes. Pointy stilettos, strappy sandals, but then trying to fabricate them in a modern way,” Saunders told FN. “The juxtaposition of very ’70s shapes with graphic white nappa. Also, that eclectic feeling of mixing different materials, jewelry worn with the shoes. It feels like a great balance between decoration and simplicity.”

Looking ahead, Saunders said he plans to incorporate more prints in the footwear category, too. “There is still a lot to learn,” he said. “Next season you’ll see a real progression of what we’re doing for the collection. I love working with products; I studied product design before I did fashion. Its something that excites me.”

When designing shoes with DVF, Saunders said he has standout and original product in mind. “I think in all categories and especially with footwear, people want things that are special and have a point of difference, which are unique,” he said. “When we’re working on designing a line of shoes we really want to focus on individuality and identifying what makes DVF stand out in the crowd. Print, color, textile design and fabrication, all with an essence of luxury at the forefront.”
