The mood: Jem and The Holograms grow up. A nod to the 1980s neon craze done in covered silhouettes and chic, playful accessories. Geometric shapes were presented as embellishments on patent leather overcoats or as strategically-placed coverings on sheer tops. Multicolor sequins were added onto the sleeves of mohair sweaters.
The shoes: Ankle-strap pumps appeared in various saturated suedes, from yellow to purple and pink (Jem’s favorite color, by the way). Suede boots with patent toecaps had graphic neon outsoles. Low block-heel pumps were done in metallic pink and yellow with a knot detail at the toe. Pointy patent flats also had an ankle-strap.

The review: Though the collection was youthful and spunky in spirit, the end result overall felt contrived. Emporio Armani is not a chirpy brand. It may serve as the trendier offshot to the Giorgio label, but it isn’t Moschino either. The look was puzzling. But still, sophistication seeped through via the color scheme’s grounding in black — not to mention the great coats, which are always memorable at Emporio.
