For spring ’17, men’s designers are slipping into one of the hottest women’s categories of the moment: mules. The easy, slip-on-and-go style has been trending in womenswear for quite some time but has now made the jump into menswear, where labels embraced both minimal and maximal takes.
Gucci undoubtedly led the trend last season with its fur-lined horsebit mules, a major street-style star. Now, the Italian label presented smoking slipper versions at its spring show. Suede or satin mules were embroidered with its signature snake motifs, which were embellished with sequins.

Y-3 Project offered colorful mules that were reminiscent of traditional babouches, but had a rounded toe. Fendi offered penny loafers that had collapsible backs (it can be a loafer or a mule — talk about options).
In London, Christopher Kane offered another new idea: the sneaker mule. The brand reworked its neoprene buckle sneaker with a backless silhouette.
