6 Biggest Shoe Trends From Paris Fashion Week Fall 2016

The different footwear trends that came out of Paris fashion week can be overwhelming. We’re here to help find the best ones.

Designers in Paris were apparently on the same footwear page for fall ’16. From velvets to mid-calf boots, vastly different labels ended up with a unified shoe message. Of course, each fashion house did its own take on the trends, but the sense of unison was indeed surprising given the roster was all over the map. (Who would have thought Off White and Rochas would be grouped together, say, ever?)

For our top shoe trend picks, read on below.

Furry Feet
Fur footwear was a trend that dominated the entire length of fashion month. Paris saw the trend continue in more unexpected shoe shapes, like Miu Miu’s dyed fur slides or Sonia Rykiel’s pompom platforms.

Disco Heaven
Sorry, single-sole lovers: Platforms are here to stay. Moncler Gamme Rouge did a heavy platform clog — clunk, clunk, clunk — while Vivienne Westwood and Rochas stuck to platform sandals or pumps.

Blue Velvet (And Red, And Purple)
Undoubtedly one of the leading trends of the season, velvet boots dominated in darker jewel tones. Some brands opted for just a touch of the plushy fabric instead, like Haider Ackermann’s velvet-cap toes.

Pretty In Pink(s)
Pink was a major color story in the ready-to-wear collections, but the footwear assortments embraced the girly hue as well. Pumps or mules appear in hot magentas or softer blush tones.

Sock It To Me
When in doubt, put a sock on it. The normcore movement carried on via loafers and sandals paired with luxe hosiery (think ribbed or cashmere socks). Cozy, for sure.

Thigh-High-Higher
While the thigh-high boot comes in and out fashion, this season it returned once again with a vengeance. We saw aggressive slouchiness from Vetements, or a more refined silhouette from Balmain that acted like a second skin.
