Will Rihanna Hit The Paris Runway Next Month?

PARIS — Could RiRi be ready for the Paris fashion stage? Word has it the music star is planning to present her spring 2017 Fenty Puma byRihanna collection in the French capital after a debut last February during New York Fashion Week.

It is understood Puma is seeking a time slot amid the French collections, which are to be paraded here from Sept. 27 to Oct. 5.

Puma had no comment.

It was learned Wednesday that Rihanna’s Fenty collection would skip showing at next month’s New York Fashion Week after just one season. The singer’s subbrand will have a presence in New York that week, though, with exclusive pop-up shops to mark the release of Fenty’s fall collection.

On Sept. 6, Fenty by Rihanna pop-ups will open at Bergdorf Goodmanand Footlocker’s prestige retail concept Six:02.

Both shops will have a 24-hour exclusive on the collection before distribution goes wide on Sept. 7.

Among this season’s Fenty launches are styles including a sneaker heel, a sneaker boot and sneaker boot wedge.

An occasional front-row figure at couture and ready-to-wear shows in Paris, Rihanna would join an action-packed week that includes the debut of Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior, Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent, Bouchra Jarrar at Lanvin and Pierpaolo Piccioli as sole creative director at Valentino.

Fenty by Puma was not listed on the preliminary calendar released Wednesday by the Chambre Syndicale. But a number of houses shifted time slots, with Saint Laurent now on the opening day, as reported, and Kenzo garnering back-to-back evening slots toward the end of the week.

Rihanna is the German athletic company’s highest-profile collaborator. She assumed the title of creative director in December 2014 when Puma, which is controlled by Kering, signed her to a three-year contract.

Fenty is the Barbadian singer and songwriter’s last name (her first name is Robyn) and she chose to use it for the Puma collection in order not to “oversaturate people with the Rihanna brand,” she told WWD earlier this year.

Her debut collection enthralled shoppers, with the first delivery of her furry slides selling out in less than one day. Other Fenty successes include a high-top trainer and creeper styles.

The fall show exalted Japanese street style, mixing up Goth, erotica and sport with takes on wrestling gear, boxing shorts and robes, tracksuits and hoodies.

Rihanna is also known as a Dior brand ambassador; she’s worked with MAC Cosmetics, and designed a collection for high street retailer River Island. Her bold personal style spans vampy glam — pearls, corsets, boas — as well as boyish street.
