Karl Lagerfeld imagined a high-tech theme for his latest Chanel collection, which debuted today at a sleek industrial center in Paris. The fashion house’s signature tweeds were reworked with holographic fibers, while its chic ballet flats — a style consumers consistently go crazy for — were given life with perforated leather, elastic strapping and a slight block heel. Day 7
Why end a fashion show with a walk when you can end it with a dance party? Stella McCartney staged a dance-off for her spring ’17 finale, where models showcased their best moves in the designer’s new slouchy ready-to-wear. And bonus points for the shoes: The plunging v-cut pumps, in a checkered print, were practically designed with speed racing in mind — or in this case, speed dancing. — Christian Allaire

“Do these shoes go with these pants?” It’s not a question need asking when it comes to Balenciaga’s latest gobsmacked shoe. For spring ’17, the lines between boots and pants were blurred with stretch spandex stilettos morphing into pants. They offered the ultimate fusion of high fashion and extreme athleisure.
The archival style from Balenciaga’s ’70s archives was revisited and amplified (those jewel brights, that extremely whittled toe) by Paris’ man of the moment: creative director Demna Gvalsia. At once, they spelled ch-ch-changes for the house and also cha-ching. — Mosha Lundström Halbert

Acne’s Jonny Johansson delivered an architectural take on the Swedish staple clog. Pumps, done in patent leather — printed to resemble the grain of wood — featured a sinuous curved sole, “like the arm of a chair,” according to the show notes. Their clean lines came in sharp relief to the more earthy RTW offering, offsetting it to great effect. — Stephanie Hirschmiller

The mythical Dior new-look woman was channeled through a series of dainty pumps. Some were prim slingbacks with a petit curved heel, while other versions featured retro bow embellishment along the sides. Isabel Marant is one of those designers who can be consistently relied on for desirable shoes imbued with her signature French insouciance. For spring ’17, she kicked the ruffle trend up several notches in the form of leather gladiator sandals completely coated in a chrome tone. Footbed, too. The summer staple also got updated with a short and narrow heel, which looked to satisfy the Marant girl’s two chief requirements: walkable and naturally seductive. Rihanna Antoinette? The singer was on hand to debut her second Fenty by Rihanna collection in collaboration with Puma, and she clearly got into the French spirit — fusing Rococo flourishes with her signature sportif swagger. Sure, there were mad mixes of corsetry, lace baseball caps, big pearls and bigger-still hoodies, but what saved the show from music-video costume territory were those very sellable shoes of hers. The singer followed up the success of last season’s Creeper sneakers with a serrated sole platform combat sneaker – for both him and her. — Mosha Lundström Halbert
Day 1
In a collection primarily consisting of stilettos, black patent dance oxfords styled with matching sequin socks were the sole (excuse the pun) moment of gamine charm and welcome irreverence for Anthony Vaccarello’s debut at Saint Laurent. With such skimpy hemlines and plunging necklines, a flat is much more palatable than ceiling-high heels. And modern, too. — Mosha Lundström Halbert
