9 Statement Shoes Sure To Turn Heads On The Red Carpet

At FN we are looped in on virtually every shoe that walks the red carpet. We’re talking countless press releases, celebrity stories and shoe detective work. At this point, the fashion team can spot a designer heel from a mile away. But often times, the chosen styles are underwhelming and pretty predictable. Come on, stars and stylists, give us something with a little sizzle, already. There are so many beautiful shoes out here to chose from – why the same humdrum lineup?

The problem often stems from the dresses starlets choose. When styling shoes with an ornately beaded gown or floor-length dress, simpler shoe silhouettes are often favored for their ability to blend into a total look (think simple heels like Christian Louboutin’s Pigalle, Jimmy Choo’s Lance or Stuart Weitzman’s Nudist style). However chic, our eyes are glazing over.  With award season in high-gear, may we suggest high-octane heels with pop?

But a standout shoe doesn’t have to be distracting — keeping a tonal color scheme, or just allowing the shoes to be the focal point, are an equally mesmerizing way to bang out a memorable carpet look.

The latest crop of designer shoes offer the opportunity to make such a statement. Miu Miu’s zigzag crystal-embellished pumps offer ample dazzle. Charlotte Olympia’s textured gold mule can be treated as a basic (yes, tinsel glitter is a basic on the carpet) and certainly update a classic black gown, while Givenchy’s pointy slingbacks add a punctuation point to a softer look.

Lacey and buckled styles also add a modern twist to red carpet dressing. Laurence Dacade’s satin buckled sandals with PVC are an unexpected alternative to the nude sandal, while Marchesa’s strappy ankle sandals are eye-catching in magenta.
