The Story Behind The Shoe: Azzedine Alaïa’s First Sneakers

When you think Azzedine Alaïa, fitted frocks and towering stilettos spring to mind, not sneakers. But the fabled designer, a devotee of athletic trainers himself, has debuted his first pair of laceup kicks.

For spring ’16, Azzedine Alaïa’s decidedly feminine footwear collection took a sporty turn with the introduction of the brand’s first pair of sneakers.

Featuring a laser-cut upper decorated with the designer’s signature eyelet perforation motif, these casual laceups will soon appear in new variations for fall.

Azzedine Alaïa debuted his iconic perforation pattern in 1992, which has added punch to everything from tailored jackets to over-the-knee boots and his iconic fit-and-flare dresses.

The Italian-made low-tops are sure to be a hit with Alaïa label lovers such as Kendall Jenner and Joan Smalls, who lean more towards ath-leisure in their day-to-day style when not hitting the red carpet.
