Topman Design Men’s Fall 2016 Shoe Collection

Go big or go home. Kicking off London Collections: Men on a slouchy, oversized note, Topman Design rolled out a fall ’16 collection that was part peacock, part lounge lizard, part grunge guru and part ’80s club kid.

Low-top sneakers dominated the lineup. Suede styles were offered in neutral colorways, whether a pale beige or stark white with black toe caps.

Compared with previous seasons, which saw styles like Topman’s fall ’15 bowling shoes come down the runway, this season’s accessories felt a tad too safe for fall. Still, styles like a black sneaker-boot hybrid offered a point of differentiation.

On the ready-to-wear side, the references felt strange and often unbecoming, especially their searing spice shades, gleaming velvets, bold Chinoiserie prints and flashy metallics.

Pick apart these showy pileups and there were some plausible items: long enveloping coats in nubby fabrics; cropped aviator jackets with retro shearling collars; all manner of floppy, pajama-like pants; and enough faded, shredded and boxy denim for a Salt-N-Pepa reunion.
