As models stood surrounded by walls of hanging flowers — drenched in autumnal shades of cashmere, ruffles and fringing — the bohemian nature and gypsy-type spirit of the brand was oozing out of each look.
It was certainly pleasing to see that the footwear had not been approached simply as an added accessory but an extension of a theme. “We’ve evolved into more of a lifestyle brand so it’s really about the whole silhouette — but it doesn’t exist without the shoe,” Johnson told FN during her presentation. This cohesive approach was evident, with the brand’s spirited aesthetic filtered throughout both the apparel and accessories.
“My collection is very much about hand-made, details and embellishments — really elaborate, extravagant beauty,” the designer said. Ikat stitching spotted on a midi dress was also spied on pointed-toe, wrap-ankle pumps. “We really did a lot of embellishment and embroidery this season — working with the sort of tapestry floral embroidery which we featured on the shoes,” Johnson explained.
While her fall ’16 footwear offering included flat styles, it was clear the designer has a thing for height.“I love a high heel!” quipped Johnson. But let’s not confuse that with a lack of wearability. “This season we introduced a Victorian lace up boot, also a high-heeled clog which I’m super into,” Johnson pointed out — two styles that certainly didn’t compromise comfort for high-fashion style.

A stand out wrap boot, a style previously offered by Johnson, was updated with what the designer described as “a different embroidery story — more tonal and mixed.”
