The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on Monday to attend a private memorial service in Cheshire for the Duke of Westminster. Kate Middleton wore a black bespoke velvet-trim Alexander McQueen coat with a John Boyd wide-brimmed hat. She wore the same jacket to the Remembrance memorial last year.
The royals joined 2,000 guests at Chester Cathedral to pay tribute to Major General Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor, a close friend to the royal family, who died from a heart attack on Aug. 9. He is survived by Natalia Phillips (godmother to Prince William) and their son, Hugh Grosvenor (godfather to Prince George), and daughters Tamara van Cutsem, Edwina Snow and Viola Grosvenor. Among the duke’s assets are 190 acres in Belgravia and thousands of acres in Scotland and Spain.

Other royal attendees included Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Bahrain; Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, also from Bahrain; Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and his son Prince Salman bin Mohammed Al Saud from Saudi Arabia, and Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece.
Last week, the duchess carried out a series of royal engagements in London. Middleton visited the Natural History Museum in Kensington then attended the Place2Be awards ceremony in Mansion House. She attended a children’s tea party to bid farewell to Dippy the Diplodocus, a dinosaur that has been mounted in the museum’s Hintze Hall since 1905. Later that evening, she presented awards to kids who are involved with the Place2Be awards in Mansion House. A patron of the charity that aids children’s mental health, the awards ceremony and fundraising event will commemorate schools, volunteers and children who have contributed to communities for the cause.
