Michelle Obama has been a fan of Jimmy Choo during her her entire stint in the White House, so it’s not surprise she chose the brand for a recent Black History Month event at The White House.
This particular pair of Choos — the brand’s metallic “Aza” pumps — has racked up plenty of attention during the past few days, thanks to a very special moment. The First Lady and President Obama hosted Virginia McLaurin, 106, a longtime Washington, D.C., resident whose dream was to visit the White House.

“I thought I would never live to get in the White House. And I tell you, I am so happy. A black president! A black wife! And I’m here to celebrate black history. Yeah, that’s what I’m here for,” said McLaurin, in a statement published on the White House’s official site.

The Obamas were clearly taken with the woman, and the First Lady even posted a photograph from the event on her Instagram account. “What’s the secret to still dancing at 106? Just keep movin’,” she wrote.
Obama clearly feels comfortable in Jimmy Choo designs — and the brand’s creative director, Sandra Choi, loves seeing her wear them — whether she’s meeting the Pope or traveling the world.

“Michelle Obama is a woman of our time: confident, glamorous, stylish, adores fashion, relatable,” Choi told FN earlier this year. “That’s what makes it a special honor to see her wearing [our brand].”
“She has an inner confidence and radiance that is reflected in the way she dresses. I like the way she supports young designer talent, mixing [the shoes] with more established brands,” Choi continued. “Her fashion choices are never inappropriate.”
