Shoe of the Week: A Super Luxe Pool Slide

Week of Dec. 5
This luxe pool slide from Olgana Paris should, funnily enough, not be worn anywhere near water. For spring ’17, the Paris-based brand applied its signature mink furs to the upper of a chunky sports sandal. Paired with a Solid & Striped swimsuit, the look is the perfect mixture of classic and cutting-edge — meaning you can dip your toes into it without fear.

Coach is soaring to new heights — quite literally. For spring ’17, creative director Stuart Vevers continued down an edgier path with a series of heavy metal-studded loafers (finished with staggering flatform soles, no less). Shown on the runway with grungy floral prints, the Roccasin Creeper toughens up even the sweetest of looks.

Call it 50 shades of pink. For an evening that invites the unexpected, Manolo Blahnik offers this sultry boudoir look for spring ’17. Arrayed in smooth satin with a luxurious feather embellishment, the Lima heels harken back to 1940s glamour and practically beckon for a silk peignoir set.

Call it the rave of the season. For spring, Marc Jacobs debuted a psychedelic collection inspired by EDM culture. And boy, were the platforms a trip. This sky-high 170-millimeter boot, made of leather and python, pumps up the kitsch factor with quirky motifs, including plugs, bricks and — why not? — sausages.

Merrell’s spring ’17 Burnt Rock crossover hiking boot for men was designed with the active city dweller in mind. Its nubuck upper and protective rubber toe cap make this shoe seriously trail-ready, but the eye-catching range of colors and rich materials provide some urban style. The boot features the brand’s proprietary M Select Fit.Eco blended EVA contoured footbed.

Bionda Castana’s spring ’17 Imaan Gold sandal was designed with hot nights in mind. “It mimics the mood of love, passion and the carefree frivolity that Palm Springs is known for,” said designer Natalia Barbieri, who co-founded the label with Jennifer Portman. For spring ’17, the brand’s collection is playfully referred to as “Palm Springs Is My Muse.”

The work of legendary lensman Norman Parkinson lends fashion credibility to this Mulo slip-on. For spring ’17, the espadrille brand has adopted a selection of Parkinson’s iconic images, including “Dog Friday,” featuring model Appollonia van Ravenstein coaxing a stray dog in the Seychelles. That original Parkinson shot was photographed for British Vogue in 1971 and was styled by Grace Coddington.
