7 Things to Know About FN’s Designer of the Year Paul Andrew

Paul Andrew‘s first job in fashion was working for Narciso Rodriguez and many more fashion houses. “I worked with some amazing icons in our industry for over 15 years, before I decided to embark on my own journey,” Andrew told FN.

In 2013, the British designer took the experience and roster of contacts and created the Paul Andrew brand, launching a line of single sole stiletto heels. “Thankfully that really resonated with the market,” he said. “I just do what feels right to me, whether it’s ornamentation or color or heel proportion.”

This has been a particularly good year for Andrew: In 2016, he launched a men’s line during Men’s Fashion Week in January and took the helm of Salvatore Ferragamo‘s women’s footwear division as design director, relinquishing designing for some 14 brands. “It’s been great to embark on this new challenged and to be entrusted with a house that has been in business since 1927 and has never named a shoe designer since Salvatore died until me. It’s an enormous honor,” he said.

What’s more, on Tuesday, Andrew will be recognized for his work as the recipient of the Designer of the Year honor at the Footwear News Achievement Awards. Still, he said, “I feel like this is just the beginning. I have so much work to do and so much still to achieve.” Check out the above video for more.
