In honor of the 2016 Academy Awards approaching on February 28, we’re taking a look at our top five favorite shoe moments from past awards shows. Though long red carpet gowns often obstruct any sort of view of the shoes, a number of entertaining moments have showcased — not hidden — some seriously dazzling footwear.
See our picks below:
1. Jennifer Lawrence trips in Brian Atwood.
It was the fall seen around the world. While walking up the stairs to accept her 2013 Academy Award for Best Actress on stage, Jennifer Lawrence tripped on her Christian Dior dress while wearing Brian Atwood platform heels. Sky-high heels are always a risk. When a reporter asked what happened in the press room afterwards, Lawrence replied, “What do you mean what happened? Look at this dress!”

2. Pharrell’s dazzling sneakers.
Sure, we see a ton of sparkly heels on the Oscars red carpets — but what about the guys? Singer Pharrell Williams busted out some seriously glitzy sneakers for his “Happy” performance at the 2014 awards. His custom Adidas Stan Smith sneakers were ruby red and covered in sequins.

3. Anna Kendrick plays Cinderella.
Neil Patrick Harris and Anna Kendrick opened last year’s Oscars with a musical number, where Kendrick played Cinderella and Harris her Prince Charming. In the performance, Harris was holding her lost slipper, which just so happened to be a metallic Jimmy Choo pump. “Is this your Jimmy Choo?” he sang.

4. Angelina Jolie pioneers #AngiesRightLeg.
Who could forget Angelina Jolie’s 2012 Oscars look. Wearing a strapless Versace dress and Salvatore Ferragamo peep-toe pumps, Jolie became a social media sensation after repeatedly posing on the red carpet with her right leg peeking out. Not a subtle look, but at least she took the opportunity to showcase the shoes.

5. Stuart Weitzman’s million dollar heels.
Talk about an ultimate red carpet shoe. At the 2004 Oscars, singer Alison Krauss wore a pair of $2 million Stuart Weitzman stiletto sandals — a style inspired by Cinderella, though it puts her glass slippers to shame. They dazzling heels were made of 565 Kwiat diamonds set in platinum. Two years earlier, Laura Harring wore a pair of Weitzman’s $1 million heels made from 464 diamonds.
