Sotheby’s Celebrates Barbie’s Birthday With Diamond Shoes

It looks like some brands are celebrating Barbie‘s 57 birthday in a big way.

The iconic Mattel doll was introduced to the world on March 9, 1959. Naturally, Sotheby‘s is celebrating with a very special pair of diamond and platinum shoes courtesy of legendary jeweler Harry Winston.

The auction company posted on Instagram this morning that the special shoes (and the 3.73 carat diamond ring pictured with it) were included in the house’s April jewels sale.

We’re pretty sure these sparklers in human size might be a little out of our price range.

Barbie also celebrates her birthday today with the opening of the “Barbie” exhibition at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The 16,000-square-foot show debuts Thursday and explores Barbie’s impact on fashion.

There are 700 dolls and art pieces in the show, including some standout styles from Thierry Mugler, Chanel, Maison Margiela, Jeremy Scott and Yves Saint Laurent.
